So you’ve probably wanted to play guitar for a while now, right? Or maybe you tried as a kid but gave up as it was too hard or maybe you just weren’t making the kind of progress you expected.
In either case you now want to start and be playing quickly.
The first thing you’re going to need of course is a good beginners guitar. Yes, it does have to be a good one, if you’re serious, as it will make the physical action of playing so much easier. It will do this by having a lower action (this means the strings are closer to the fret board and easier to hold down). Also it will have a much brighter sound due to the better material that it’s made from.
The Yamaha FG700S is a great beginners guitar as they are easy to find online and don’t cost very much. Well under $200. Don’t forget you can sell it to move up when needed. Although these guitars are being played at gigs as their owners are that confident in the guitars ability.
The next thing to do is completely ignore learning music. Surprised you? Just ignore it. Unless you plan on becoming a session musician you’ll never need it.
Guitar tabs can give you everything you need to play any song you can name. You can find them all on the internet. Just Google “guitar tab songname”. Where songname is the song you’re looking for.
You can learn for free with the many internet courses available. I recommend justinguitar.com. He’s a great guy and deserves some support. His videos are all free.
A tip to finish with.
Your fingers are going to hurt through the first few practise sessions until your fingertips toughen up. You can speed up this process by hitting the strings as hard as you can when first starting off. This will help the toughening process and strengthen them.
